Using Courses for Students: Student Help Page

by Anthony Carpi, Ph.D.

Courses is a unique educational system designed specifically for use with Visionlearning's award-winning learning modules (follow this link for more information about our modules). The Courses system allows students to read lessons, use interactive tools, take practice quizzes, communicate with their instructor, print out modules, take notes and more. This help page provides detailed guidance for students on how to get the most out of the Courses system (if you are an instructor, please see Using Courses for Teachers).

Starting Out

To begin, you need to register with our system. Registration is free – simply click the “Register” link on the black bar above and complete the basic information. Don’t worry – we won’t bother you with lots of emails or share your information. Our privacy policy ensures that any personal information you provide will not be shared with others unless you have provided explicit written consent.

Find a Course

Once you have signed in, select the blue Classroom tab at the top of the page. Under Courses, you can look for the course either by grade level or location. simply click on the accordion tabs to find your Instructor's name or course title.

When you’ve found the course you are looking for, select the link and then click the “Enroll” button at the bottom of the page. When your instructor approves your enrollment, you will be able to enter the course.

Navigating the Course system

The left menu of your Course is your main mode of navigation. Every course you are enrolled in will be listed here. Beneath a course name will be a series of links:

Home provides a description of the course and will also display any announcements that your instructor has posted.

Syllabus loads the course syllabus your instructor included. This usually includes the readings and assignments for your course, and when they are due.

Modules provides links to reading modules that your instructor has required for your course. The red box beside the link will show the number of modules included in the course. Simply click on the link to see the list. Clicking on the name of the module will load it on the right. Each module has many features including animations, glossary definitions, and practice quizzes, which you can read about on our About section,/a>. All of our materials are available in both Spanish and English, simply click the red "en espanol" button in the black bar above.

Printing and other options

If you would like to print a module, you can do so by clicking the print icon on the module toolbar. In the coming months, we will be launching an iPad app that will allow you to read our materials offline, but on your iPad. Like us on Facebook to find out about that release. We will also be adding audio recordings of the modules over time, so keep an eye out for that player icon on the toolbar, as well. If you have questions, feel free to email us through our Help section.
