A scientist whose focus is the study of inland water bodies (e.g., lakes, rivers, streams) and their surrounding environment. This includes the interactions between the plants and animals in and around the water bodies, as well as the effect of geology (e.g., topography, soils) and weather. Limnology includes the study of inland salt-water bodies, like the Lochs of Scotland and Great Salt Lake in Utah, as well as freshwater bodies.
