Young, Thomas

English physicist and physician, born in Milverton, Somerset (1773-1829). Young’s experiments with deflecting light showed interference patterns, proving that light is a wave. In addition, he was an Egyptologist and helped decipher the Rosetta Stone. Young also researched the size of molecules, surface tension in liquids, and the elasticity of materials.
