Using MyClassroom for Students

Student Help Page

by Anthony Carpi, Ph.D.

MyClassroom is a unique educational system designed specifically for use with Visionlearning’s award-winning learning modules (follow this link for more information about our modules). The MyClassroom system allows students to read lessons, use interactive tools, take practice quizzes, communicate with their instructor, print out modules, take notes and more. This help page provides detailed guidance for students on how to get the most out of the MyClassroom system (if you are an instructor, please see Using MyClassroom for Teachers).

Starting Out
To begin, first complete our registration form and then enter the MyClassroom area. If you do not see your instructor's MyClassroom site, use our search feature to find the site you are looking for. Once you find the MyClassroom, click the join button. If your instructor has allowed open access, you will see a page that links directly to the classroom. If your instructor has chosen to screen students, you will be notified via email when your instructor has approved you to use the classroom.

MyClassroom
Once you have joined a MyClassroom, you will see a page that resembles Figure 1 below. There are two parts to this classroom, the left menu (in yellow below) provides a list of class resources, this menu will remain in place as you navigate through your new MyClassroom site. The right screen will change as you navigate the site.

The left menu of your MyClassroom (Figure 1) is further broken into two sections. The top Course Info section provides a link to the home page, shown at right in Figure 1. The course homepage provides a description of the course and will also display any announcements that your instructor has posted. The "Teacher Email" link provides an easy way to send your teacher messages. The "Syllabus" link loads a course syllabus, "Course Info" provides additional details about the classroom, and "Announcements" provides access to all of the announcements for the course, including old announcements that have expired from the home page.

The Modules section of your MyClassroom provides links to reading modules that your instructor has required for your course. Clicking on the name of the module will load it in the right frame. Each module has many features including animations, a glossary and practice quizzes, which you can read about on our Visionlearning Teaching Modules page. All of our teaching modules are available in both Spanish and English, simply click on a module link and you will see a link to select a different language.

Instructors can add comments directly to the modules in the MyClassroom area providing additional instruction or assignments. If a teacher has included a comment on a module, a yellow Teacher Comments box will appear in the main body of the module.

Notes
Each module also has a "Notes" link associated with it (Figure 1). This area allows you or your instructor to add notes to any of the modules. You can save your own private class notes notes here, these will be visible only to you. Your instructor can also add notes for you to read to provide helpful details about the modules. A Note page that contains a note will be followed by a number in parentheses indicating the number of notes associated with the module [i.e. Notes(1)].

Printing
You can choose to view all of the modules in a MyClassroom within a single, scrollable file by choosing the In Print link under the Course Info section. This option allows you to obtain to a personalized MyClassroom PDF file. The PDF option allows you to output the homepage, syllabus, modules, notes and quizzes contained in a MyClassroom to a single portable document format file (a free PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat® will be needed to view the file). The PDF file can be saved to a disk for use offline, or it can be easily printed out.
