polar covalent bond

A covalent bond in which electrons are unequally shared between bonding atoms. A polar covalent bond is formed when one atom participating has a stronger affinity for electrons, or electronegativity, than its bonding partner. A polar bond will result in an equal distribution of electron charge across the bonding pair. Compare to polar covalent molecule.
