An instrument that separates the waves emitted from an object into its corresponding spectrum of wavelengths. These wavelengths can be mapped to identify properties of the light source (e.g., intensity, movement, elemental composition, etc.). Spectrographs vary depending on the wave type being analyzed. See spectrogram and spectrometer.
